Introducing the SJM Sports Bullpen: A Client Portal Built for Sports Facility Projects
Building a sports facility involves many moving parts. Site selection, financing, feasibility studies, design, permitting, and lining up contractors and operators all come with documents, deadlines, and decisions. Over the years at SJM Sports, I kept seeing the same problem. Key information ends up scattered across email threads, shared drives, and spreadsheets, and clients have to ask “where do we stand?” far more often than they should.
So we built a fix. It’s called the Bullpen.
What Is the Bullpen?
The Bullpen is SJM Sports’ private, invite-only project workspace. Each client team gets secure logins and a home base for their project, where they can see progress, share files, and know what’s coming next without digging through their inbox.
We built it around how sports facility projects actually run, so it doesn’t feel like generic project software forced onto a very specific industry.
What Clients Can Do in the Bullpen
Follow progress in one place. Every project has an overview showing the current stage and what’s next, and anyone on the client team can log in and check it at any time.
Work through a real due diligence checklist. We built a standard checklist that covers what a facility project needs before it moves forward. Each item shows who owns it (SJM or the client), and clients can update the status of their own items and add notes as they work.
Track milestones. Major checkpoints are laid out clearly, so everyone knows what has been done and what’s still to come.
Share documents easily. Clients can drag and drop files to upload several at once, and everything stays organized under the project. No more “can you resend that attachment?”
Keep the conversation organized. Shared notes keep project discussion attached to the project itself, so it doesn’t get lost in someone’s inbox.
Answer due diligence questions. A built-in question bank walks clients through the most important questions, and their answers feed into a due diligence report we can produce for the project.
See the bigger picture. A Build Guide lays out a typical sports facility timeline and the team you’ll need at each stage. That’s especially useful for first-time developers.
Customizable for Every Client
No two projects are the same. A youth sports complex, a multi-sport training center, and a pickleball facility each need different things. The Bullpen lets us tailor checklists and milestones to each engagement. We can also set access by role, so owners, partners, and advisors each see the right information. Updates appear in real time, so everyone always sees the same picture.
Why We Built It
At SJM Sports, we help clients make smart decisions and keep projects moving. The Bullpen makes that easier. Clients get transparency and accountability, and we spend less time chasing updates and more time on the strategic work that moves a project forward.
